Thirteen Years

Our Story

A journey written slowly, across cities and years — from a sleepy airport morning to a little hand reaching for ours.

Summer 2013

A Sleepy Arrival

Washington, D.C. A 6 AM flight, eyes barely open, and a stranger waiting at the gate with quiet kindness. Shangjie was there — steady, patient, holding a welcome that would quietly outlast every sunrise since. Neither of us knew, in that pre-dawn hour, that the journey had already begun.

2018

Coast to Coast, One Heart

The country stretched itself out between us — one coast holding Shangjie, the other holding Sihui. Three hours apart on the clock, thousands of miles on the map, and somehow still the same conversation every night. Distance, it turned out, was simply another way to learn devotion.

May & November 2021

A Question, An Answer

In May, Shangjie asked the question in the most Shangjie way — tender, thoughtful, and entirely his own. On November 27th, under the promise of a new winter, we said I do, surrounded by the quiet joy of those who had watched us from the very beginning.

2023

Finally, The Same Sky

California called Sihui home — and after years of red-eye flights and goodbye hugs at airports, we woke up under the same roof, in the same city, for good. The long distance closed like a book with a very happy ending. The next chapter opened with morning coffee for two.

December 2024

Our Greatest Blessing

Nolan arrived — tiny, perfect, and utterly ours. In an instant, two became three, and the whole geometry of our love expanded to hold him. Every sleepless night, every first laugh, every small miracle: a reminder that this is the life we'd been building toward all along.

July 10, 2026

Thirteen Years, One Celebration

Thirteen years after that early morning in D.C., we gather the people we love beneath the marble halls of the Asian Art Museum — to toast the road behind us, and raise our glasses to every adventure still ahead. Thank you for being here. The story continues, and you are part of it.

"And so the adventure continues —
with two becoming three, and love making room for more."

With Gratitude

Gift Registry

"Your presence at our wedding is the only present we need."

Truly — the greatest gift is simply having you beside us on this day, celebrating thirteen years of love and the beautiful family it has created. We are endlessly grateful you've chosen to share in this moment with us.

A Note for Our Chinese Tradition

In Chinese wedding tradition, 红包 (hóngbāo) — the red envelope — carries more than a gift. It carries 祝福 (zhùfú), a blessing: for harmony, prosperity, and a lifetime of love shared between the newlyweds.

For family and friends who partake in this beautiful custom and wish to bless our journey in this way, we've included the details below. Please know it is entirely optional — your love and presence already mean the world to us.
